Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

I have a dell 2700fp monitor, and a nv41 video card.

When I use the proprietary nvidia driver, I automatically get 1600x1200 resolution with no messing around needed. But with the free nv driver, I can't get any higher than 1280x1024.

I tried manually setting a modeline (from someone else's successful configuration of the same monitor with a different video card), and that didn't work. I get the error message:
 Panel size is 1280 x 1024
(II) NV(0): Not using default mode "1600x1200" (exceeds panel dimensions)

I will attach my configuration.

xresprobe doesn't list 1600x1200 for the NVIDIA card on VESA 3.0 but binary driver works correctly.

I have the same problem with LCD panel Fujitsu Siemens S20-1W, which is capable of 1680x1050.
All modes are correctly detected by nv driver. But panel size is wrong:

(--) NV(0): Panel size is 1024 x 768

Because of wrong panel size, desired resolution is rejected:

(II) NV(0): Not using default mode "1680x1050" (exceeds panel dimensions)

According to:
http://blogs.gnome.org/newren/2007/08/11/dear-lazyweb-how-to-get-native-screen-resolution-in-f7/
which references:

The problem affects only DVI connection. The cause is somewhat fuzzy for me, any explanation will be highly appreciated.

Bugs mentioned above are resolved as WONTFIX .......

As mentioned upstream a fix is unlikely, but I'll keep this open for now.
