Bug Description

Hello,

I've tested the trusty Xstack HWE xserver-xorg-lts-trusty with my Radeon HD5550, which supports opengl4.x.

Mesa 10.1.3 should support OpenGL 3.3 for this card, so glxinfo should show the correct information, but it does not.
=> Only OpenGL 3.0

OpenGL vendor string: X.Org
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD REDWOOD
OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 10.1.3
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30

The problem is the mesa-utils version 8.0.1+git20110129.

I have taken the source from trusty mesa-utils 8.1.0-2 and compiled it on precise ...
You need glew >= 1.5.4, so install libglew1.6-dev.

After installing the new mesa-utils 8.1.0-2, glxinfo shows the correct information => OpenGL 3.3 support!

Please update mesa-utils and mesa-utils-extra to 8.1.0-2 (trusty version) in precise!

Thanks, Bernhard

Not going to be fixed. OpenGL 3.3 is supported on precise, but updating mesa-utils is not going to happen, it's because this glxinfo doesn't support the different opengl profiles from 3.3, so 3.0 is correctly reported.

Changed in mesa-utils (Ubuntu):

status: New → Won't Fix

And backporting version 8.1.0-2 from trusty is also not possible?

What do you mean with "different opengl profiles" ?

In my recompiled glxinfo (from trusty) OpenGL 3.0 and 3.3 is shown;

OpenGL vendor string: X.Org
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD REDWOOD
OpenGL core profile version string: 3.3 (Core Profile) Mesa 10.1.3
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 3.30
OpenGL core profile context flags: (none)
OpenGL core profile profile mask: core profile
OpenGL core profile extensions:

OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 10.1.3
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30
OpenGL context flags: (none)
OpenGL extensions:

If you really want to have a backport, you should follow the guide at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports to get a backport into precise-backports (which is not enabled by default).
