Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

This is exactly the same problem as in bug #8802. But this bug was in 2004.
Just download anything with Firefox and in download window click "open" to open the downloaded file. Nothing happens.
The version of Firefox is Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20061201 Firefox/2.0.0.6 (Ubuntu-feisty).
I use Kubuntu 7.04.

Firefox removes files downloaded as temporary files (which happens if
it automatically opens an application helper for you) on shutdown. So
it might be true that the file you try to open doesn't exist anymore.

Can you verify that those files you try to open actually exists on
your disk?

Yes, I verified that the downloaded file was on my desktop and Firefox couldn't open it from download-window. I need to goto desktop and open the file from there.

Same problem here with Kubuntu 7.04. Tried safe mode with the same results.

This maybe related to Bug #131743. What do you think?

Update: I noticed that if I choose to open something while downloading instead of saving it, I can then open it if I click open in the download manager. The file resides in /tmp. Parsek77, can you verify this is the case for you?

If I select "open" instead of "save" in the download manager window and if the firefox has the correct default opener, it opens. But if I later click "open" inside the download manager window, it still doesn't open. I can see the file in /tmp but not working from download manager. It is annoying. This does not happen on Debian nor Suse.
