Bug Description

Using Ubuntu 14.04 amd64 with Kernel's 3.13 and 3.14, DPM (Dynamic Power Management) support is broken on my Radeon 8670D APU chip. What happens is that when my PC boots, it shows the login screen for a second then immediately reboots on its own, I do however have encryption enabled on Ubuntu.

Manually disabling DPM support by adding "radeon.dpm=0" in "/etc/default/grub" in the section "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" fixes this problem, but I would like to have better power management enabled for better performance of my chip.

Specs: MSI FM2-A75IA-E53 motherboard, 16GB DDR3 RAM, AMD A10-6700T APU.

The version of the driver 'radeon' is: 1:7.3.0-1ubuntu3.1

There's a fix released for this bug, how do I close it and what do I mark it as? Invalid or fix committed?

As you said, this is fixed by the BAPM (Balanced Average Power Management) support which has been added to the upstream 3.16 kernel.

For other people following this bug, a PPA of the 3.16-rc4 kernel can be found at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and instructions on how to install and uninstall it are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds

For now, I think that Fix Committed is appropriate, and Fix Released once Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" is released in October.

Changed in xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu):
status: New → Fix Committed
