Bug Description

(This suggestion is based on MassLNC item "Allow item records to be sorted by chosen columns")

It would be useful for patrons to be able to sort the copies in the Record display by arbitrary columns. The main use case is when the patron wants to find libraries that have a certain part of a multi-volume set. The patron would sort by Part.

Most often, the default sorting order (which groups results by org unit) is sufficient.

I'm curious to know if anyone else is still interested in this. With the addition of the "Show Only Available Copies" and geolocation sorting in 3.8, the usability is much improved.

I agree with Terran that "Show Only Available Copies" and geolocation sorting greatly reduce the need for this. For the use case described above (a patron interested a certain part in a multi volume set) I'd think a "show only selected part" dropdown would actually be a far better solution than sorting.
