Keep me posted on your plans to try other things. Given that the camera video preview doesn't work either, I believe there is something not quite correct in terms of recompiling all of the dependencies with the new Qt 5.3.

Currently I have no plans on what else could be tried on the Qt side. You can see the recompiled packages at:
https://launchpad.net/~canonical-qt5-edgers/+archive/qt5-beta2/+packages

Everything that has been thought as being needed (qtubuntu, qtubuntu-camera, qtubuntu-media, qtvideo-node) has been recompiled and then some more (media-hub, qtubuntu-media-signals etc). If there's still something more, it'd be good to know.

I would also try recompiling QtMultimedia just to be thorough. I can't think of anything else at this point.

QtMultimedia is updated 5.3.0 similar to other Qt modules, so it has been recompiled as well. It's probably either something that needs changing at a low level or an actual upstream problem, but good debugging would be needed on what's the problem if it's the latter.

An update from the desktop: both camera and mediaplayer (webm files) work on the desktop with Qt 5.3, although both of them have a green background unlike on Qt 5.2.

I filed bug #1323960 regarding the camera problem, even though the bugs may be related.

And bug #1324105 for music-app crashing and bug #1324106 for sound settings crashing. Again, these might all be related to some single problem in the multimedia system, or be multiple separate problems, but I can't decipher that.

Sound settings one got fixed by upstream Qt fix that fixed a lot of crashers and apparently also that one. Others (video playback, camera, music app) are still as valid as before.

With https://code.launchpad.net/~ricmm/qtvideo-node/qt-53-build/+merge/222344 added to the PPA now, media playback and camera seem fixed!

Music app crasher bug #1324105 is still valid, though, and is therefore unrelated.

Video playback is working, however there's a new bug where the video freezes after a few minutes of playback and gets very choppy. Will file a separate bug for this issue on Qt 5.3.
