Bug Description

Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" RC1 does not switches the PC off after shutdown.
No error messages for furher investigation. Just a blank screen.
AMD Turion 64 on HP Pavillion DV5000.

Last year, there was an almost identical problem in Linux Mint 16. In those case, a sequence of error messages claimed there was a device busy (the internal modem) that prevented the PC from switching off. The mentioned internal modem was driven by a proprietary driver.

I have an identical machine, I will test this shortly.

Are you using the 32 bit or 64 bit Qiana?

I'm facing a similar issue since yesterday (26 Oct 2014). Whenever I try to shut my laptop down, I get the login screen. My laptop model is Asus x552ea-sx006d. It has an AMD quad core CPU (64 bit), 4 GB of RAM and 500 GB HDD. I'm using Linux Mint 17 Mate 32 bit OS on it.
I was prompted for some updates yesterday which included some icedtea updates, 0AD updates and others. But I went out of the way and checked a few system updates also (which were unchecked and marked red) available in the list of updates and installed them. I'm not sure but does the issue of the laptop not shutting down has to do anything with the latest updates? Since before that my laptop did not have such an issue and behaved fine.
I shall be very much grateful if anyone would help me out with this.
Thanks and regards,

Gautam

And it didnt shutdown, I checked dmesg and I had kernel bug there.

Try to shutdown and paste your dmesg messages while doing that....

I am having a similar problem to alexbottoni with a similar computer hp pavillion dv5000. I am switching from linux mint 16 to 17. i had no problem with 16. With 17 there is an message when i try to shutdown mentioning fail modem manager 1351. It also mentions org.freedesktop.modem manager. I have done some interenet searches but didn't find any help. I am also unable to activate my wifi or hibernate/suspend my computer.
