[HP Pavilion 11-n071eg x360 PC] Booting unreliably and does not switch off during shutdown

Boot hangs often. I tried with several kernel parameters (nomodeset or acpi=force, boot=...) but nothing helps.

Shutdown of the HP x360 from ubuntu 14.04. is also not possible. Hardware is never switched off after shutdown and I need to hit the power button for 4+ seconds.

Workaround for trusty kernels for now:

$ echo "blacklist dw_dmac" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-dw-dmac.conf

Fix is present in the vivid kernels.

Gnu, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:

Same behaviour with kernel v3.15-rc2-trusty. PC hangs during boot mostly. It seems after power off for long time first boot succeeeds. Shutdown is not switching off the PC.

Any other testing / logfiles needed, please let me know.

This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

The solution appears to be to blacklist the dw_dmac module.

The Debian solution is to not build the dw_dmac module in the i386 and am64 kernel configs.

HP pavilion 11 x360, does not boot at all now in Ubuntu 14.10, booting stops at "(942) killed by TERM signal (OK)" I've tried booting in UEFI mode on and Legacy, also secure and not secure, still cant get to the desktop by live desktop or install

On the latest vivid mainline kernel (3.19.0-031900rc4-generic_3.19.0-031900rc4.201501112135) - this module does not make the system crash when loaded.
