Bug Description

no wifi with kernel 3.15.0-1.3 when using bcm 4309:

this is when using kernel 3.15.0-1.3 in lubuntu-14.04 trusty and bcm 4309 (driver b43).
This problem does not occur when using kernel 3.15.0-1.3 with bcm 4312 (driver bcm-kernelsource) (neither for lubuntu 14.04 nor 14.10).

This problem does also not occur when using instead kernel 3.14 in lubuntu-14.04 or 14.10 (i.e. wifi works with bcm 4309 and 4312).

I suppose it is not a problem with the kernel 3.15, but the driver b43 may need some adaption.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1320610/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

wifi problem persists with kernel 3.15.0-1.4:

no wifi with broadcom bcm 4309 (driver b43-fwcutter). This is for lubuntu-14.04 trusty.
Connection via cable works.

On the other hand, wifi is okay when using kernels <3.15 (checked with 3.13 and 3.14).

volker kempter, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, the mainline kernel 3.15-rc5 is not software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. As per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds#Kernel.2BAC8-FAQ.2BAC8-DebuggingMainlineBuildsSupport.Does_the_kernel_team_support_the_mainline_kernel_builds.3F :
>"The mainline kernels builds are produced for debugging purposes and therefore come with no support. Use them at your own risk."

Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider of the software package -> www.kernel.org . Thanks!
