Bug Description

In Ubuntu 14.04/trusty the use of my BT headset (an old Motorola HT 820) is not possible any more. Pairing is successful, however I always find the following in /var/log/syslog when I trying to connect to the A2DP service:

May 17 16:09:58 silberfisch2 kernel: [25385.859723] input: 00:07:A4:B5:F1:5E as /devices/virtual/input/input22
May 17 16:12:18 silberfisch2 kernel: [25526.017139] Bluetooth: re-auth of legacy device is not possible.

This is a regression i.r.t. older version of Ubuntu, for example I *was* able to use the device with Ubuntu 13.10/saucy.

As I reported in bug #1283003, the problem could be circumvented with:

> pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover

However bug #1283003 does NOT mention 're-auth of legacy device is not possible' in any way.

Thomas, thank you for this report and thank you for the research leading you to find a solution in bug 1283003.

I hope you don't mind me unduping this ticket for the moment. Bug 1283003 lumps together too many different aspects to be actionable. I believe I experienced exactly the same issue and that's the one I'd like to get a fix for into Ubuntu so that things work out of the box.

Here's what I know about the situation at the moment. "pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover" resolved the situation for me just like it did for you. I am not yet sure if that will survive a reboot or if I will need to reissue the command. Bug 1283003 comment 15 mentioned left-over files in /etc/bluetooth that once they were removed resolved the situation. I believe I can also confirm that for my case. Is this the same for you? If it is, I'd like for this ticket to focus on those left-over files and get a fix committed to Utopic and Trusty.

Have you ever tried a Trusty or Utopic live CD and experienced the same issue?
