Bug Description

We have seen some strange behaviour under Windows 8/8.1. The Windows power management seems to have some problems. Even if the display settings in the power profile are set to never turn off, the display still turns off sometimes. If an application is using SetThreadExecutionState ES_CONTINUOUS, ES_DISPLAY_REQUIRED and ES_USER_PRESENT we cannot reproduce the problem anymore.

I think this issue can be resolved by turning off the hard drive power saving and disable hibernate mode.

Thank you for the comment... I have spoke to the original reporter and they would prefer to manage the state without changing the power saving settings. I think this can easily be done with a call to SetThreadExecutionState.
