Bug Description

I use Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS

This is the message I get when initializing the Update Manager:

Could not initialize the package information

An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:

'E:Read error - read (5: Input/output error), E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

Please try running update-manager from a terminal and provide any output in that terminal in the bug report. Thanks!

After running the update manager from a terminal the problem is gone, it updated all the software and its working fine.
I truly appreciate your help
