network connection drops out and needs frequent resets

Bug Description
Ubuntu loses my internet connection frequently.
The connection can be temporarily restored by clicking the network icon on the upper right tray and selecting either my network name or 'restore wifi'.
Ubuntu Release: 13.10
This problem prevents me from upgrading Ubuntu.
The internet connection on this PC is continuous with Windows7 pro or Slacko Puppy Linux 5.6.0.
