Bug Description

After the installation of Ubuntu,

In Help-> check for updates,

this option shows gray and it cannot be pressed.

And also, Edit-> Preferences -> Advanced -> Update

The option for update also shows gray and it also cannot be press.

I download the file for linux installation, the readme.txt says:

For information about installing, running and configuring Firefox
including a list of known issues and troubleshooting information,
refer to: http://getfirefox.com/releases/

I went to http://getfirefox.com/releases/, and I cannot find any information for the installation for linux.

Thank you for your helps.

firefox will be automatically updated by ubuntu through the system-update mechanism ... so no need for you to bother. Sorry, that I cannot give you more details, but if you have general questions about how all this works, maybe try to ask in a beginner forums on http://www.ubuntuforums.org.

Thanks,

I have also noted this problem.

In Gutsy Gibbon, with Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.6, you can't press "Help"->"Check for updates..." because it is grayed out. :(

Same under Edit-> Preferences -> Advanced -> Update.
My active version under Ubuntu is 2.0.0.8 and my UPDATED version under Windows is 2.0.0.9.
Thus, I anticipate that Firefox will not be automatically updated by Ubuntu 7.10 through the System Update Mechanism.

I would be really happy to learn what to do. Thanks!

we only update packages for security issues in our stable releases. 2.0.0.9 didn't ship any security fixes so we skip it. So most likely the next update you will get will be 2.0.0.10.

Thanks,
