This sounds a lot like bug 1268257 even though it looks different. Maybe we should be tracking it as a duplicate of bug 1268257?

Same as usuall - only get message "failed to build module", no other readson given. this has been occuring for MONTHS now.
individual install of nvidia 331 always works, and always fails during packaged updated....

141009 update of kernel to 3.13.0-37-generic. This time my system's bricked. Boot proceeds to login screen with all it's features but displayed with various resolutions on different interations. After signin, system hangs.
Went to the 1st backup kernel: that worked. I'm looking at new video card (AMD) or new distro but my wallet says new distro. I'll run on the older kernel for a while.

This bug looks like a secondary form of bug 1268257. So keep an eye on that one for a potential fix.
