Bug Description

On a Lenovo Thinkpad X230 Tablet, since upgrade to Trusty, onboard does not recognize finger taps any longer. I can klick the keys using the mouse, but I cannot type with finger taps. The touch screen device of the thinkpad X230t is otherwise working well. I can use the touch screen to steer the mouse pointer over onbboard's window, but I cannot "press" the keys using finger taps.

This makes onboard useless on the thinkpad X230t. Please fix.

Hi, could you post the output of
xsetwacom --list

That may print nothing, from what I can see the X230t doesn't have a wacom touch screen, but I'd like to be sure.

Then please try the updated Onbord from our snapshot PPA at
https://launchpad.net/~onboard/+archive/snapshots

There's a chance that the recent touch fixes help you too. See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/onboard/+bug/1297692

If you can't type at first please reboot once and retry.

Sure. The X230t has three wacom devices:

kup@reinhold:~$ xsetwacom --list
Wacom ISDv4 E6 Pen stylus id: 11 type: STYLUS
Wacom ISDv4 E6 Finger touch id: 12 type: TOUCH
Wacom ISDv4 E6 Pen eraser id: 16 type: ERASER

The finger touch device is the one onboard needs to support (and, in addition the stylus device would be helpful).

As I said, all three of these devices generally work fine. For example, I can use all three of them with Xournal just as expected. Onbord fails to read the finger taps from the touch device.

Thanks, this is very likely the same problem as bug #1297692 then, I'll duplicate this one to it.
If you can, try the above PPA. There's a good chance it will work for you too.
Alternatively (or in addition to the PPA) consider turning off the wacom driver's gesture support:

xsetwacom --set "Wacom ISDv4 E6 Finger touch" Gesture off

This has the added advantage that you get to use multi-touch in Onboard (and elsewhere), see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/onboard/+bug/1297692/comments/28

If you have trouble typing at first, please reboot once and retry.

Thanks,
it behaves like you say:
- with the standard trusty package, turning off the wacom driver's gesture support completely fixes the problem for onboard, but then I have no gesture support in other applications, which I use a lot
- the version from your PPA fixes the problem, even with wacom gesture support enabled, but then onboard has no multitouch support

So here are two ways of using onboard again, but it would be great if both was possible at the same time: wacom gestures, and multitouch in onboard.

Thanks a lot for your help!
