Bug Description

Wireless does not work on my desktop pc system using ubuntu. "rfkill list all" reports wireless device as hardblocked in ubuntu, although no wireless switch or respective key combination exists on my system and the wireless functions perfectly under windows on the same system.

The steps undertaken so far to try and solve this problem are reported in this ubuntu-forum-thread (The thread was opened by me for this exact problem): http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2220855

I am using Xubuntu 14.04(trusty) but the problem persists also in Kubuntu.
The kernel version is: 3.13.0-24-generic
The reported driver for the wireless is rt2500usb.

"lshw -class network" gives me this info:

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.15 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

The problem persists after installing and booting the new mainline kernel "v3.15-rc4-utopic".
The new kernel does boot, however, there were problems when trying to install the respective "linux_headers*.deb".
Not sure if that counts as "kernel-unable-to-test-upstream". Therefore, ill change the status as confirmed, as you suggested.

hank, could you please try the latest mainline kernel via http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15-rc5-utopic/ and advise to the results?

Hi, The problem still persists with thre kernel v.315-rc5-utopic.
Also, I now ought an additional externel wireless usb adapter to try and circumvent the probkem. However, this is now also reported as "disabled by hardware switch"

Hi Christopher,
Downloading version 12.4.0 is not possible because the respective page automatically redirects to version 12.4.3 (no download available for 12.4.0).
I will test 12.4.3 and (to be sure) the even older version 11.10

Yes, it is possible because the fact it says 12.04.3 at the top has nothing to do with being able to download 12.04.0 from lower on the page. As you will notice lower on the page it notes the different versions of 12.04, including 12.04.0.

Testing 12.04.3 wouldn't be helpful here as it's the equivalent to testing Saucy.
