Bug Description

After I installed Ubuntu 14:04 (64-bit and 32 bit on varios hardware) the Nikon Coolpix S31 is not recognized by the system as data storage or a camera by for instance shotwell.

I can extract images from the camera with Camera.app v. 0.8

My Olympus camera is recognized without problems.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.15 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Espen Ore, could you please unplug all USB devices from your computer, plug in only the problematic USB device, immediately place the following in a terminal and attach the uncompressed results:
lsusb -v > lsusb-v.log

I have run the lsusb command. Since I am now at work, this comes from another computer, a Dell Latitude E6520. But I also have the problem on a Dell Inspiron in addition to the HP first mentioned, so this seems to be a general Ubuntu 14.04-problem and not a computer-specific problem.

Espen Ore, please do not mix and match what computer this device is plugged into. Instead, please only provide logs from the computer you originally reported against.

Honestly, this goes towards nonsense. The bug appears in *all* my computers whether I use 32bit or 64bit Ubuntu 14.04 and whether i use a Dell Latitude, Dell Inspiron or a HP-computer. This is obviously a very general bug in the 14.04-version of Ubuntu.
