Bug Description

Binary package hint: mono

Install Ubuntu. You will see that you have technology led by Microsoft on your computer (mono). This is in deep conflict with https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1 (Bug #1 in Ubuntu, Microsoft has a majority market share).

When you uninstall mono, you will see that only a few non-critical applications depend on mono.

Please move mono to universe to fix this bug.

This assumption is SO wrong. Microsoft has nothing to do with mono. You might want to read www.mono-project.com.

I'm closing this one. Linux being able to run .NET applications will rather make people switch over quicker then the opposite.

Thank you for asking me for further feedback.

Microsoft has very much to do with mono. I do know www.mono-project.com. Let me explain why I think that mono has so much to do with Microsoft.

Mono implements .NET, right?

.NET is Microsoft technology, right?

Mono attempts to implement .NET as much as possible, right?

If you can answer all three questions with "Yes", then you agree with me that mono is Microsoft-led technology. I do NOT say that mono is written by Microsoft. The underlying technology, though, is Microsoft technology.

Quoting the Debian CLI policy:

The Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) is both an iso (ISO/IEC 23271:2003) and ECMA (ECMA-335) standard.
The Common Language Runtime (CLR) is an implementation of the CLI (often with a lot of add-ons or tools for developers). Mono and Microsoft .NET Framework are both CLRs.
The ".NET" word is a Microsoft marketing phrase and mostly is a CLR with added Microsoft technologies like: ASP.NET, VB.NET, System.Windows.Forms, Passport plus a lot of other things.
