perf samples too long

Bug Description

I always see these lines in `dmesg` and wonder what these mean:
[ 3805.057535] perf samples too long (2507 > 2500), lowering kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 50000

They repeat often and I think the value kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate should be somehow optimized. How can I do that?

Or it is a bug?

Thanks
Michael

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.15 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Ummm, sorry, I am a bit unsure here.

What apt-get commands should I enter for installing the latest kernel?

And how can I be sure this won't destroy my Ubuntu installation? I need the machine for work etc.

Michael Heuberger, this messages you see are intentional as per https://lkml.org/lkml/2013/5/29/640 . In the future, instead of filing a bug report for something you are unsure of, it would be best to raise a question in the support tracker via https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+addquestion .
