Bug Description

Hi there,

it seems that you missed to add playonlinux-bash in the playonlinux.install file in your debian source package.

Probably nobody missed it so far due playonlinux will nontheless work proper.

I am running into problems while working on my project, which makes usage of playonlinux-bash:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/wineportscripts/

The problem is a trivial and can be fixed instantly. Just add the playonlinux-bash wrapper to debian/bin/ and add

debian/bin/playonlinux-bash usr/bin/

at the end of playonlinux.install file.

many thanks

André

Hi,

I checked this issue against a fresh install of kubuntu 14.04. I placed the missing wrapper script in /usr/bin/ and everything worked for me as it should.

The thing I now wonder is if I should follow my plan doing a postinst script that will place the missing file if it's not existing. Could there be problems if this file was patched by my postinst script and an update of playonlinux package comes in trying to place the same file?

Any advisories? Should I wait for patching? If you don't plan to fix this, I also could place the file in a debian package. Could that lead to the same update-problems I'm considering?

Best wishes,

André

As stated previously on playonlinux.com's forum:

playonlinux-bash is still part of PlayOnLinux/PlayOnMac, we're not responsible for third party packaging

It is still there. It is actually a part of the program itself. It NEEDS to be there. I have been getting nonsensical emails about this from Ubuntu's bug reporting system. If it is broken in Ubuntu (which it is not, because I installed 4.2.2 directly from Ubuntu's repo's), then it is an Ubuntu issue, not a POL issue. We cannot help it a third part breaks POL in their repo. Although, I do not see how they could miss it.

I mean, it seems more likely that your install broke during installation.

Why dont you just download it directly from our download section? I mean, your bug seems to only affect you, and it is for sure not a repo issue, nor a POL issue.

Try to download the .deb file here:

Hi Josh,

I did notice that this is NOT a problem in the POL distribution and I am sorry, if I posted my issue at the wrong place.

I just wanted to mention that in the official repository playonlinux-bash is existing in /usr/share/playonlinux/ but the wrapper is missing in /usr/bin/.

So who can I ask for the POL-Package in the ubuntu repositories? Currently I cannot see who's the maintainer of the package distributed in the official repositories.

I could do download this on my own, ok. But I needed this existing as a depency install. Thats why I thought I should report this to the packager.

So again, sorry if this is the wrong place for reporting my issue. I will fix this in my own package, which will add the missing wrapper then.

Best wishes,

André
