Bug Description

Hardware: 1U Dell C1100 poweredge server, 2 and64 hex core processors, 72Gb RAM.
Installed Ubuntu 14.04 from a USB, created using Rufus from the .iso download from the ubuntu website
Installed using sudo apt-get: gfortran, dos2unix, build-essential, liblapack-dev, libblas-dev, mpich2.
Worked Great. ALl my MPI codes in C.C++, fortran passed the test.

However, on powering down and re-powering up, the GUI hangs up at the Ubuntu screen with several dots, just before the log-in screen. The machine is not available.

Repeated the process using wget from mpich.org to set up mpich in another directory. Same problem.

On my hardware, mpich2 causes the 14.04 GUI to hang up.

This is really a problem, because I had to go back to 12.04 to use mpich2.

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Presumably this problem was a one time occurrence and/or is no longer an issue? Can the bug report now be closed? If we do not hear from you the bug report will close itself in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better.
