Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled the xorg-edgers-ppa. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu. The page, https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa, contains details on to how to revert to the official Xorg packages. Thanks.

Hi,

I don't think this is accurate as I've fully removed the xorg-edgers-ppa from my system.

Why do you still think it's an issue with xorg-edgers-ppa and what can I do to resolve it? I've already removed and purged the ppa.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Steven

The fix for this issue is:

sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-all

This will then allow you to upgrade from Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04.
