linsnux, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

1) Could you please provide the full computer model as noted on the sticker?

2) If you use the 64-bit version of Ubuntu, would it change anything?

3) If you turn on WiFi Power Management would this change anything?

Thank you for your help penalvch!

1) Celeron 847 (1.10 GHz, 2M Cache), HDD 250 GB, 2GB RAM, Chipset Intel® NM70, Network 10/100/1000 Mbps, Gigabit Ethernet, wifi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n;

2) I downloaded 64-bit version right now and installed in a pendrive and I started the laptop using it but wifi does not work on it too, only wired connection;

3) How could I do that?

linsnux, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.15-rc3

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

hello, I used 14.04 beta2 with kernel 3.13.0-19-generic with success.
The problem arises after the update to 14.04 stable with kernel 3.13.0-24-generic.
Then I am still able to use wifi booting with kernel 3.13.0-19-generic. I don't know if there is an option for downgrading to that kernel version, as a workaround until the problem get fixed.

Anyway. For me it works perfectly with the new kernel 3.13.0-29-generic.
Do you still want me to run ubuntu-bug linux ?

The realtek driver in the rtlwifi_new repository appears to fix the problem for me. I built the driver and installed it, and now have apparently normal network connectivity.

  make
