See https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1350785#p1350785. On *buntu, the offending file is at /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdbg/icons/hicolor/22x22/actions/pulse.mng and deleting it does indeed enable KDbg to start now.

After finding this bug I try to find the file pulse.mng and dolphin says that it requires an additional complement to decode the file. Looking that complement makes no results. Using Muon Package Manager and looking for Multiple Image Network Graphics I found that libmng2 is installed, and actually a could open the file with ImageMagick (it does not handle the animation, but using View > Refresh I can have an Idea of the use of the .png files).

Renaming the file /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdbg/icons/hicolor/22x22/actions/pulse.mng to .../pulse.mngBAK did correct the problem. However, I saw a new funny little problem: the icon of the program at the launcher was lost. I'm pretty sure that the proper icon was in use before. So, I had to correct that "by hand".

This is fixed upstream by this commit http://repo.or.cz/w/kdbg.git/commit/dd2ecd5010070ec7af0a67b1f9dbfcaf58668170 and would be trivial to fix in Ubuntu by including the regenerated image.

The file `/usr/share/kde4/apps/kdbg/icons/hicolor/22x22/actions/pulse.mng` exists on my Kubuntu 15.04 machine and `kdbg` runs without a problem. So I guess this is fixed in Ubuntu 15.04 then. This bug was fixed upstream in version 2.5.5, see [changelog](http://repo.or.cz/w/kdbg.git?a=blob;f=ReleaseNotes-2.5.5;hb=kdbg-2.5.5). Ubuntu 15.04 ships 2.5.4, so that does not explain why it works for me, now.
