Bug Description
Attempted to upgrade to ubuntu desktop 14.04 from ubuntu 13.10 several times. Each time third party sources [ppas] were disabled and eventually removed. first state of the system was with ubntu unity removed with cinnamon as primary desktop environment. After 3rd try, unity was reinstalled and system restored back to default settings. 6th try after removing ppas still resulted in failure, same error messages. After all attempts, the system reverted back to state before the upgrade attempt while notification on the taskbar [sorry if that is the wrong term] urges me to properly upgrade. System reboot or shut down removes the notification but upgrading is still a failure. Attached to this is the GUI error message through installing via gui software updater. Same message appears when upgrading through terminal.

You seem to have installed the cinnamon package on Ubuntu 13.10. Unfortunately, that package is not available yet for 14.04. To upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS you'll need to either wait for a fix for cinnamon to be available or uninstall the package and then upgrade.
