HP Pavillion 6030el: Ubuntu 14.04 (clean installation) + fglrx-update

I'm able to use both discrete and integrated cards but when switching to the integrated one I get a low graphic mode logging out and SysRq REISUB does not work.

Same issue here with an NVidia card, whether I use the open source drivers or the proprietary ones.

Resolved for me (on NVidia) with the following commands
sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-greeter
sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
And a reboot.

I meant
sudo apt-get install --reinstall unity-greeter
unity, not ubuntu.
Apologies - I'll stop posting now!

Any news? The workaround does not work for me

I get the same error by typing:

glxinfo | grep rendering
libGL error: dlopen /usr/lib/fglrx/dri/i965_dri.so failed (/usr/lib/fglrx/dri/i965_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
direct rendering: Yes

I was able to produce this issue when I removed Unity. Cloudane's solution did fixed the problem

I have upgraded the Catalyst driver to the version 14.12 installing directly the deb packages taken from the official amd website.

I have applied the workaround suggested here:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/540780/14-10-wine-and-fglrx-conflict

to solve the conflict fglrx/wine on Ubuntu 14.04 and everything works fine. I can logout with both graphic cards without any issue.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5448 with hybrid graphics: Intel HD 5500u (i7, integrated) and a AMD R7 M265 (dedicated). I have this same bug. From a fresh installation of Ubuntu 14.04.2, tried to install:

1.- fglrx-updates from Additional Drivers. Bug appeared and flaky graphics with both cards.
2.- purged/removed fglrx-updates and installed fglrx from Additional Drivers. Bug persisted and flaky graphics still.
3.- purged/removed fglrx and downloaded the drivers directly from the AMD site (amd-driver-installer-14.501.1003-x86.x86_64). Installed and the bug persisted but it seems that the graphics are more stable now. (no repeated text and no overheating).

The bug appears specifically when I switch to the Intel integrated graphics and logout. This doesn't happen when I logout with the AMD graphics. The bug is also described here https://community.amd.com/message/1303774 . I get the black screen and the message "this system is running in low-graphics mode" (sometimes with cursor, sometimes without).

Whenever I try to logout though, I get the following message (see picture). No matter how many times I restart and my system is already updated. The only way to avoid the black screen is to never logout when using the integrated Intel card.
