Bug Description

In previous versions of Ubuntu (12.04, 12.10, 13.04, 13.10) the horizontal scrolling worked using a 2 finger swipe on my touchpad. However, after upgrading to 14.04 I can no longer scroll left/right using my touchpad.

NOTE: Scrolling vertical up/down with 2 finger swipe is still working correctly.

By issuing this command I was able to get horizontal scrolling working again:

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.touchpad horiz-scroll-enabled "true"

NOTE: Required reboot.

Please check this for a workaround:

http://itsfoss.com/enable-edge-scrolling-ubuntu-1310-quick-tip/

A possible fix would be to detect if touchpad has multitouch support and then enable this option based on this.

Regards.

I concur, same issue on Lenovo W520, even if horiz-scroll-enabled is set to True.

Check your scrolling method

gsettings get org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.touchpad scroll-method

if it's set 'two-finger-scrolling', you can update it to 'edge-scrolling' using command
gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.touchpad scroll-method "edge-scrolling"

But I don't want edge-scrolling. I want two-finger-scrolling.

This bug report refers to multiple releases all of which are now 'End of Life'.

I'm setting this bug to "Incomplete" as it's not seen any activity for some time. If this is still when using a maintained release of Ubuntu then please let us know otherwise this bug report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days time.
