Samba packages cause error when upgrading Saucy to Trusty

Bug Description
After starting an upgrade from Saucy to Trusty via the update-manager GUI, a dialog box was shown with the following information.
UPDATE: Problem was resolved after purging several Samba-related packages, apt/history.log attached.
Could not calculate the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

It seems like the samba-related packages were the culprit, after purging them the upgrade went fine. Attaching an excerpt from /var/log/ apt/history. log, which lists the packages I had to purge in order for the upgrade to go through.
Nevertheless, I am keeping this bug report open, as these were standard packages and should have been handled gracefully by the updater. I would be glad to provide more information if someone is interested.
