Bug Description

I first noticed this about three weeks ago while scrolling through a large PDF file via rdesktop; finally located error messages in kern.log today. Symptom is sudden loss of network connection. Both systems involved must be shut down, allowed to cool for several minutes, then re-booted, to restore network actions. The kern.log entry indicates timeout during file-splice action but I have not found more detail than that.

For what it's worth, the same thing happens in Linux 3.2.0-59-generic i686; I don't have any older kernels still in place on either system to see if it goes farther back than that.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, no; my main machine failed to start on power-up yesterday
and I'm running on the only backup machine I have.

I did note in a previous comment that the same thing happens on the
previous kernel, which was available on this backup machine.

For the same reason, I'm unable to add a tag to the report until I can
get the main machine powered up again, since all my Launchpad
credentials are stored on it. Can you add the appropriate tag for me,
please?

Thank you.
