Bug Description

My x11vnc starts this way:

hss@hss-laptop:~$ cat /etc/init/x11vnc.conf
start on login-session-start
script
/usr/bin/x11vnc -xkb -noxrecord -noxfixes -noxdamage -rfbauth /home/hss/.vnc/passwd -display :0 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -forever -bg -o /var/log/x11vnc.log
end script

This setup used to work fine until xubuntu 12.04 LTS

With xubuntu 14.04 LTS, as soon as the screen saver lock (password window) kicks in, I can still see what is "behind" the screen saver lock (aka the "normal", unlocked window). However, I cannot klick anywhere. Neither can I unlock the password screen, because I just don't see it.

This may need to be re-assigned to light-locker or xscreensaver; I haven't kept up to date on which screenlocker xubuntu is using.

I also encounter the same issue on xubuntu 14.04. X11VNC session can not work when the screen saver is activated.

actually as long as you lock the screen and you need input password to unlock it, you can not do it by VNC client.

@jacklu:
I have the same problem. I also start x11vnc with a similar script as the threadstarter.

When the vnc server machine boots up and shows the login screen, I am able to do the login with a vnc-client.

But if the screensaver starts on the server, I am not able to login with vnc.

The behavior of x11vnc is different on my server:

1) on boot of the server, I can login with a vnc-client
2) if I do a user logout on the server, I am able to login again with vnc.
3) if the screensaver starts on the server, I am not!!! able to login again with vnc.
4) if I only lock the screen on the server (no user logout), I am not!!! able to login with vnc.

It's estimated to have a moderate impact on a large portion of Ubuntu users.
