Bug Description

I just upgraded my desktop machine to Hoary from Warty, and restarted to pick up
the kernel and X changes.

The GDM login screen is now 640x480, before it was much higher, bout 1280x1024 I
think, and the picture is slightly offset on the display; a symptom I saw back
when warty was using the XFree86 nv driver which was fixed when I installed the
nvidia-glx driver.

So I checked out xorg.conf, and sure enough it's using the nv driver again. I
changed it to "nvidia" and restarted GDM, and the server wouldn't start at all.

I saw the other bug report about the nvidia kernel module failing to load, so
don't think of this one as a duplicate -- I'm more concerned that despite the
configuration suggesting the contrary, the nv driver is only using a very low
resolution.

Is this bug still relevant in Breezy?

well, yeah. it's a more general problem of not preserving changes from
XF86Config-4 when upgrading from warty; the upgrade process is broken by design
in that regard.
