Bug Description

Version info:
alroman@alroman-w510:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)
Release: 14.04
alroman@alroman-w510:~$ apt-cache policy kde-workspace
kde-workspace:
  Installed: 4:4.11.8-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 4:4.11.8-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 4:4.11.8-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Expected outcome:
When I maximize a window (gvim) the window should be fully maximized, covering the whole screen. I should not be able to click above the window and focus the desktop.

What is happening:
There is a border / padding around the top and bottom of the window and I can un-focus the window if I click there. This appears to be an issue with gvim only, so I'm thinking it could be all GTK apps, since others work fine. Please see the screenshot and let me know if you need any more info. On second thought, Firefox works fine and that's GTK too AFAIK...

I'm marking this as "affects me too" which will confirm the bug. Whether GTK windows are currently being displayed as intended I do not know but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will investigate/advise.

This site has a fix (it worked for me):
http://www.rubenbejar.com/2013/03/gvim-does-not-take-the-full-screen-when-maximized-in-kde/

Essentially, you can fix it like this:
1. Start GVIM
2. Right click on title bar, More Actions, Special Window Settings
3. Under Size and Position, set Obey geometry restrictions to Force/No

This should be a default setting, though, so I'm keeping the bug open. Someone more knowledgeable with how these settings are managed for the whole system should take a look though.
