Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

Problem: Login picture of new user does not show up in login screen.

Details:
1. Live-CD version of Ubuntu Feisty (7.04).

Steps for reproducibility:

Boot from the CD.

System -> Administration -> Login Window

Local -> Happy Gnome with Browser -> Close

System -> Administration -> Users and Groups

Add User -> created Desktop user with the name "user1"

CTRL+ALT+Backspace

Login to user1

System -> Preferences -> About me

Chose "baseball.png" from /usr/share/pixmaps/faces/

Logged out.

Picture did not show up.

Possible reasons:

I read in some various places of the web, including Redhat and fedora areas, that this is a bug with gdm. It seems like people tried fixing it then upgrading the version, but I've noticed that users persist to have this problem with the updated version. Maybe I'm one of them.

Addition comments on possible reasons:

I've also read it has to do with permissions and the way files are handled throughout the process. However, I'm not too knowledgeable about those topics.
