Panasonic CF-29PTQGZBM.
It's an old Panasonic Toughbook.

It currently is running / on an SSD, /home and /tmp on a HD. Was going
to put /var there, to cut down on writes, but had issues and discarded
the notion for a while.
Haven't had to do any tuning with the SSD, it's running nicely "out of
the box".
The only non-vanilla I have on the box is I'm using fingerprint for
authentication.

Wzrd1, did you happen to log in after suspending the computer and it ran out of battery, or pulling the power when the battery was out?

Jeeze, It's been a while. Can't recall. I can try to reproduce the
problem if you want.
From what I recall, it had errored going into suspend mode. I think I
had to do a hard restart, but it has been a while.

From a bit OT side, what do you think it would take to get hibernate to
work? As I recall, this model wasn't supported for hibernation.

Wzrd1, regarding hibernate, this is a different problem, necessitating a separate report. Please feel free to enable and test hibernation following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PowerManagement/Hibernate#Hibernate_Disabled_by_Default. If found to not work, please feel free to file a new report via a terminal:
ubuntu-bug linux

Regarding this report, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.15-rc2

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

Sorry for the delay, RL got in the way.
Any recommendation on upstream version? Stay with the 3.13.x tree or go
with the 3.14.x tree for initial testing or even with the 3.15.x tree?
