I was trying to test this bug, but I already have gsettings-desktop-schemas installed as a dependency of ubuntu-desktop. I then tried poking around with ldd but found nothing.

$ldd $(which baobab)

This applies to servers, which seldom have ubuntu-desktop installed.

The output logged in the original report is conclusive. Install baobab and get errors. Install gsettings-desktop-schemas and baobab runs.

If you're looking for a way to test an X application on a machine without ubuntu-desktop, tunnel X11 through ssh via 'ssh -XYCSnone <user>@<hostname>', then start the X application through that remote shell.

Fixed in xenial (because gtk3 depends on glib-networking which depends on gsettings-desktop-schemas) but not fixed in trusty

I'm marking this wontfix for precise since precise is only supported for a few more weeks (April) and this isn't that important of a bug there now.
