Bug Description

I downloaded some files from internet.

Then i moved them from ~/Download to /pub (which is also an internal HDD, NTFS formated)

Every time, the file was successfully moved Thunar tried again to move the file and then came up with an error:
(something like) Do you want to override the existing file with the same file.

screenshot of the bug. Note : New folder in the screenshot is in an ntfs volume

When copying a file to a ntfs formatted volume thunar displays an error message "Error setting permissions.". This message is always shown irrespective of the source file location i.e it is in a ntfs partition or ext4 partition.
But the file is being copied successfully. Only that the error message is displayed when it is not an error.

Attached a scrrenshot of the bug.

I'm also seeing this when copying to an ntfs-3g mounted partition. I'm running Fedora 20.

I'd just like to add that this bug causes additional problems with Move operations, since it will copy the file to the new location, but not delete the original file afterwards.

Sadly this seems to be an old bug, I just confirmed the drag-and-drop 'Copy, not Move' behavior on the older Thunar with Xubuntu 12.04 LTS.

BTW my NTFS partition is mounted in /etc/fstab using defaults. Example file is world writable:
-rwxrwxrwx 2 root root 329 Jun 26 2014 linux-writeable.rtf

Same symptom on my current Linux Mint 17 with thunar version: 1.6.3-1ubuntu5 .

Just to be clear, d-n-d Move works as expected with source and destination on an EXT4 partition.

Upstream seems to confirm that d-n-d Move on same partition is the desired behavior:

I suffered from this bug a while ago, but it seems fixed on my machine. Since I believe nothing in thunar has changed, this is very likely a problem in an external component, or maybe a configuration problem. I am not sure which component could have caused this, though.

ntfs-3g[2228]: Version 2014.2.15 external FUSE 29
ntfs-3g[2228]: Mounted /dev/sde1 (Read-Write, label "Empty", NTFS 3.1)
ntfs-3g[2228]: Cmdline options: rw,nodev,nosuid,uhelper=udisks2
ntfs-3g[2228]: Mount options: rw,nodev,nosuid,uhelper=udisks2,allow_other,nonempty,relatime,fsname=/dev/sde1,blkdev,blksize=4096
ntfs-3g[2228]: Ownership and permissions disabled, configuration type 1

So if you still have this problem, try to update your ntfs3g, glib (2.42.1 here), udisks (2.1.4).

I am closing this as invalid because I do not believe this is to be bug in thunar. Feel free to reopen if you still have these problems after updating.
