Bug Description

Present state:

KiB Mem: 3936908 total, 3737952 used, 198956 free, 12312 buffers
KiB Swap: 4194300 total, 862544 used, 3331756 free, 1215956 cached

If, for instance, more chrome tabs are opened, the pointer stutters and eventually the laptop locks up. Encrypted swap is 4gb in size and on an SSD. The UI is unusable. The easiest recovery is to switch to a VT and kill a process.

Swapon -s gives:

Filename Type Size Used Priority
/mnt/4096.swap file 4194300 862192 -1

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.14 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Is there a way to temporarily avoid it building other modules against that kernel without uninstalling the software?
