Bug Description

Laptop Model: Gateway NE72203h
Touchpad manufacturer: ALPS
Ubuntu version: 14.04

In a terminal, the command "cat /proc/bus/input/devices" shows the following:

I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0001 Version=0000
N: Name="PS/2 Generic Mouse"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio4/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input16
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse0 event10
B: PROP=0
B: EV=7
B: KEY=70000 0 0 0 0
B: REL=3

According to the Ubuntu documentation, (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection) this would be would be a problem with the kernel which doesn't recognize the touchpad properly.

Thank you for your attention,

This will be fixed in Trusty when it gets the upstream 3.14.1 stable updates.

Sorry, the Trusty kernel is based off the 3.13 kernel, so we would need to identify the commit in 3.14.1 and backport it to 3.13, unless the commit was cc'd for inclusion in all stable releases.

Can you give the latest 3.13 upstream kernel a test, which can be downloaded from:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.13.10-trusty/
