Bug Description

E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root? I have been trying to upgrade 14.04 and I keep getting this error message in the terminal - it's the release upgrade/dist-upgrade, I get the same error message in the terminal, please let me know what I can do to fix this, thank you.
