xrandr hangs a G965 display

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xrandr

If you have 7.10 Tribe 3 and Intel G965 graphics, a good way to end your X session would be:

xrandr -o left

The display does indeed rotate left, but the resolution doesn't rotate and the right (now bottom) half of the screen will be corrupted. The display seems to halt as there is no way to raise a window or type or do anything else. The xrandr program itself never returns.

The server can still be killed with ctrl-alt-backspace and restarts fine.

Probably related: the rotation option in the gnome resolution capplet also doesn't work.

Do you use compiz? Can you blindly run compiz --replace from the Alt-F2 run dialog? Does it help?

I'm setting this bug to invalid since it no longer manifests itself with Hardy alpha releases containing newer xorg bits.
