Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-driver-nv

Start machine from cold. Mouse pointer visible and usable.

Log out of session, pointer invisible in GDM. log back in again, pointer invisible. Roll-over and click events still respond to mouse.

Re-start computer. Log in. Select switch user. Log into second user. Mouse pointer usable.

Log out of second user. Pointer invisible on log-in screen. Pointer also invisible after logging in.

Select switch user for a second time. Log in as second user. Mouse pointer INVISIBLE.

In summary, the second time you try to log in on a virtual terminal (Ctrl+alt+Fx) the pointer has disappeared.

When the pointer vanishes, it always does so before entering username/password.

I'd say this is an important bug given users can't log and use X-windows a second time without rebooting the computer.

Thank your for your bug report.

(hwinfo log shows that xorg driver really was nv)

Nick:
Does pressing Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to kill X and let it restart ever bring the pointer back?

I'm seeing the same behavior using Gutsy live CDs on HP s7700n.

Reproduce:
- boot into live cd, pointer is OK
- CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE
- pointer is invisible on login screen
- Wait for auto login
- pointer is invisible in gnome

I have identical behavior with the 32bit and 64bit versions ubuntu-7.10-desktop-amd64 and ubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386

No matter how many times I CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE, the pointer never reappears.

i have the same problem on my Asus x50m. The pointer disappears after KDE restart (ctrl+alt+backspace), after logout and then login, but not every restart or logout/login - it disappears randomly.

i think its related bug.
