Problem to startup by Ubuntu 6.10

Bug Description

Today i've had a problem to startup Ubuntu 6.10 on my dual core: after a while i've extract the lition battery and started with the
power unit and Ubuntu worked! however the message was "[17179598.568000] BUG: soft lockup detective on CPU#0!"
 What was wrong???

Does that happend again with an other kernel?
