Bug Description

I actually made the mistake of filing this first with Gnome, so will use most of that info (plus a correction) here.

Places Status Indicator worked perfectly when I initially installed last week.

Sometime since then it has ceased to function, and shows a red "Error"
indication in "Installed Extensions" at extensions.gnome.org.

Within the tweak tool, it's off, and the slider to turn it on is disabled.

I can see no errors in Looking Glass for this or any other extension.

I have also disabled all other extensions in the hopes that this would fix any
potential conflicts, but with no change.

If I do a gnome-shell --replace in the terminal, I get this error:

(gnome-shell:2490): Gjs-CRITICAL **: JS ERROR: Exception in callback for
signal: extension-found: SyntaxError: syntax error @
/<email address hidden>/placeDisplay.js:21

It may be worth looking at the reply from Giovanni Campagna here:

Thank you!

One more thing I should mention - I have this same behavior both on the machine from which I posted the bug, and also on a fresh install that was done 2 days ago from the daily image at the time. Both are fully updated.

Hi,

Thank you for reporting and making Ubuntu even better :)

I see " InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-02-13 (12 days ago)" which means you're not testing the latest build. Kindly install the 'latest' build and check. What does matter and what we need to know is how the latest image behave with the installation. The installation test for any ISO is very important.

So, please install the latest image and let us know how it goes :)

Thank you!

Hi Amjjawad.

Perhaps I have a misunderstanding - but I have consistently applied all updates since the time I installed from that daily build. My understanding is that this puts me in a condition where my installation does not differ from the current build. Is this not so?

Also - on my second device, I this is a fresh install using the daily build from three days ago, which has also been fully updated since then.

When I return home this evening I will update and test again - but is a reinstall actually required?

Thanks!

I have the same problem. Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 Trusty (amd64), apt-get dist-upgrade at 2014-03-06.

Did a dist-upgrade just now and the problem was fixed -- rebooted to find Places Status Indicator sitting in my panel.

I have not been religiously updating every single day, but have surely done it within the past 2-3 days.

Since I see nothing here, maybe it wasn't fixed on purpose. ;-) But it's still fixed, thanks!

Still have exactly the same problem on the latest build (did dist-upgrade just today).

Same problem on Ubuntu 14.10.
Strangely it appears for some users.
I tried to clear their /home directories, but didn't improve anything.
Did also try to uninstall and reinstall the gnome-shell-extensions package, but without success neither.
