Bug Description
Ubuntu Warty did detect my Nvidia TNT2 card without problem and im as happy as
can be with Ubuntu on my Computer.
I even run Hoary without problem.
But say if I changed my graphics-card to one with a TV-out or something, or I
change to one with better 3d. Then, there is no way
this can be handled without needing to use a terminal and editing xorg.conf (in
Hoary).
That seems like a week design. I know buying a new card is nothing most people
do, so its not a big issue, but for those that actually do, it can be a big
issue. Even though i lack the skill, perhaps one simple solution might be to
watch some HAL* things on boot, and if the ID of the card is changed, it
automaticly runs the program that configured X on installation? That way, X will
always work. Having a system that only boots into console, and expecting a user
to be able to handle it from there, is perhaps a bit to optimistic. Im not sure
if this is to be labled only as an enhancement, since it actually is giving
trouble for those that gets a new card. For example I had to help my brother
reconfigure X when he got a new card.
