Can't dim or brighten laptop screen Toshiba Satellite A105

Bug Description

In Windows, when I unplug my laptop, the screen dims to preserve battery life. How much it dims is configurable and I can even create power profiles that slow down the CPU, dim the screen or keep the computer screen from blanking.

I've been using Ubuntu on this laptop since Dapper and this feature has never worked for me there yet. However, I'd love to get it working. (and I've seen it working on other laptops)

I've heard rumours that there's a special kernel module needed for Toshiba laptops. I'm not sure if that's true of all models. sudo modprobe toshiba says "no such device"

That was quick. I just did an update and now it works!

Since I don't know what fixed this, I'm going to mark it as invalid.

Well it's 2010, and I don't know what you guys changed or why, but this used to work and it no longer works since a couple versions now.
Toshiba has been by far the largest market share holder for quite some time - there really is NO reason to ignore this.
I'm so annoyed that I'm looking for a better distro!
