[Toshiba Satellite S55-A5176] Ubuntu 13.10 does not boot

When I boot my Toshiba Satellite S55-A5176 laptop, the Grub2 menu shows up ok, but then the OS goes to a black screen. I am however able to boot in Fedora 20 almost every time. Sometimes, the same issues happens with Fedora too.

WORKAROUND: In the BIOS disable the NIC.

I tested with the latest daily version of ubuntu and the problem is solved.

Also, Toshiba released version 1.6 of the BIOS, and this solved the problem for Ubuntu 13.10

This is not an issue anymore.

The latest version of the daily build does not manifest the issue.
The issue was also solved for Ubuntu 13.10 by upgrading to the 1.6 Bios version released on Feb 25 2004 by Toshiba.
