Wifi doesn't work after kernel upgrade from 3.11.0-15-generic to 3.11.0-17-generic because iwlwifi-7260-7.ucode is missing.

kernel messges:
Feb 19 09:23:24 ubuntu kernel: [ 12.196026] iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-7260-7.ucode' failed.
Feb 19 09:23:24 ubuntu kernel: [ 12.196031] iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: no suitable firmware found!

workaround:
sudo cp /lib/firmware/3.11.0-15-generic/iwlwifi-7260-7.ucode /lib/firmware/3.11.0-17-generic/iwlwifi-7260-7.ucode

When updating my Ubuntu 12.04.4 from the 3.11.0-17 kernel to 3.11.0-18, my intel 7260 wireless was gone again.
Applying the described fix solved the problem (just is with the upgrade from 15 to 17).
Is this normal, given the current status of "Fix Released"?

I've also seen several other reports of this problem, as more and more people are starting to get computers with this card.

Do you have the updated linux-firmware 1.79.10 installed? Confirm with `dpkg -L linux-firmware | grep iwlwifi-7260-7.ucode`?

The workaroud in this bug report is going to be completely version-specific, and will have to be repeated for every kernel upgrade until you switch over to the firmware included in the newer linux-firmware.

FWIW it just rebooted into the updated 3.11.0-18-generic and my Intel 7260 works fine. I never applied the workaround in this bug report.

My bad, I have the 1.79.10 firmware installed, and it finds the iwlwifi, but I forgot I had switched to the iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode in an effort to solve some other issues with the card.

I now restored the iwlwifi-7260-7.ucode, and everything works fine.
