Bug Description

... [Fiesty] Thunderbird crashes when sending email (x86_64).

Thunderbird only crashes when trying to send email. (Versions 1.5 & 2.0.0.4 | x86_64)

Happened suddenly last week in 1.5. Upgraded to 2.0.0.4 with no change. Cannot send email without program crashing.

Running Fiesty 7.04, seemed to happen after Update Manger updates, however I cannot be sure. Did install idefisk, which has since been removed.

Thank you Thene for submitting this report.

Could you please install the debug symbol package for thunderbird and
try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on [1], or
upload the crash report that probably was generated during the crash and
that should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if
this crash is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is
very important for us to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

H. Montoliu

Hi Hilario,

I've attached the Crash Report. In my initial Bug Description, I included parts of the Crash Report (the Crash Report is over 9MB) & the Backtrace.

Thunderbird works fine, until I try to 1) Send a new email or 2) Reply to an email & send.

I am able to Compose an email with no issue. When I press Send, the Sending Messages progress box appears, then Thunderbird either 1) closes instantly or 2) closes after a few seconds.

It occurred suddenly in 1.5.
I upgraded to 2.0.0.4 & it happened exactly the same way.
I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling, with the same result.
Starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode, same result.

Using gdb, Thunderbird actually hangs & doesn't close. I can Force Quit by clicking the Close Window X.

It happens exactly the same way each time, only when I try to Send Mail. Other than that, I am able to Check Mail, make new folders, move emails around etc. without issue.

Prior to this it was working fine.

I had installed the Mailbox Alert 0.12 Extension some time ago, but I didn't end up using it, so it's disabled. I didn't encounter any problems with Thunderbird when I installed it.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can add or that I may've missed.

With Thanks,
Thene

Can I just second this bug report?
I too am running 64-bit Ubuntu 7.04., thunderbird 1.5.0.12.
I'm pretty sure the problem has started recently - maybe after an update to the Update Manager.
Do you want me to post my crash file to the above link?
Thanks,
Ron Crump

yeh I have had exactly the same symptoms - had to go back to evolution.
surely not a Novell conspiracy :)

Will try and add my crash report when I am back in my office.

I'm closing this bug based on the last comment saying that 2.0.0.6 fixed the issue.
Also please note that Feisty is EOL now.
If you still have problems, please test the latest version of Ubuntu and report a new bug.
