Bug Description

If I start my Ubuntu 14.04 with Gnome Shell 3.10 the keyboard layout is set to de (german qwertz-layout). After restarting the gnome shell via ALT+F2 the keyboard layout is set to the english layout (y instead of z and so on). So I have to go to keyboard settings and reset the layout to de. This happens after every Gnome Shell Restart, not on computer reboot.

I tested it with other Linux Distros like Manjaro or Mint with Gnome Shell 3.10. There is no bug like this.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1276467/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Same problem here. Anytime I restart the GNOME-Shell I have to reconfigure the keyboard to represent the german layout.

Great ... Fixed it (for me) ... maybe my solution works for you too?

The problem seems to be the "ibus-config". I started "ibus-setup" and under "Eingabemethode/input method" I activated the option "Aktive Eingabemethode anpassen/configure active input method(?)" and selected the already activated "german" layout (and also deleted the english layout that appeared right after a ibus-setup restart, but maybe this also helped). Now the settings are static no matter if I reboot or [r]estart the gnome-shell.

Same Problem here. Sometimes the Language changes even without a Gnome-Shell restart (i.e. while typing this Report).

Same for Ubuntu GNOME Trusty Tahr (even release canditate): keyboard is reset to english from French.
I noticed (with virtual box) that it does not happen on first boot after fresh install.

I fixed it (for me) by changing the dconf key "desktop.ibus.general.use-system-keyboard-layout" to "true" (Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 Trusty Tahr).

Confirmed on a 14.04 Gnome-shell, upgraded from 13.10.
I applied what m_heindl suggested, waiting for G-S to crash again to see if it "fixed" the keyboard problem (i'm on a french AZERTY keyboard, and it does switch to qwerty as well after a crash).

Experiencing this bug,too.

I use Ubuntu 14.04 since it is available on different pc's, but this bug appears now for the first time.
Normally I use gnome, but I haven't installed gnome on this machine with this bug.

Same problem here.

Using the »setxkbmap« command on CLI like:

setxkbmap de

For german in this case, helps me to quickly resolve this.

Is it a known upstream bug or is it something related to Ubuntu only? Because I can't find any match on bugzilla.gnome.org.
